Over $534m investment made in railway sector

TEHRAN- Iranian Transport Minister Abbas Akhoundi said that over 2 trillion rials (about $534.045 million) investment has been made in the country’s rail sector over the past three years, IRIB reported.

The minister made the remarks in an official ceremony held in the railway station of Tehran on Monday for adding 32 new and renovated passenger wagons to the national railway network.

Addressing the same ceremony, Saeid Mohammadzadeh, the managing director of Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (IRIR), said that the shares of railways in passenger transportation and cargo transportation are planned to rise to 20 percent and 30 percent, respectively, according to the country’s Sixth Five-Year National Development Plan (2016-2021), IRNA reported.
